Indian Premier League
The Indian Premier League (#IPL) is the professional Twenty20 Cricket League from India and is organized annually by the Indian Cricket Management Committee.
Founded by BCCI in 2007, the league has 10 state or city-based franchise teams. It is the world’s most popular and richest cricket league, and runs between March and May. The ICC Future Tours program has an exclusive window, with fewer international cricket tours during the IPL season. According to BARC, it is also the most respected sports competition, followed by the Pro Kabaddy League and the Indian premier League. In 2014 there was the sixth part of all sports leagues. In 2010, IPL was the first sporting event to be broadcast live on YouTube. Inspired by the success of the IPL, other Indian sports leagues were established. In 2022, the league’s brand value was estimated at 190,038 crores (US$11 billion).
According to BCCI, IPL Season 2015 contributed 1,150 crore (US$140 million) to India’s GDP. In December 2022, IPL reached a valuation of $10.9 billion, becoming Deka Khan, an increase of 75% since 2020 in its $6.2 billion amount. The 2023 final became the most streamed live event on the internet with a viewer of 32 million people.
In 2023, the league sold media rights for the next four seasons for Viaacom18 and Star Sports for US$6.4 billion. That is, all IPL games were valued at $13.4 million. Since 2024, there have been 17 tournament seasons. The current master is the Kolkata Knight Rider, who won the 2024 season after beating Sunriser’s Hyderabad in the Finals.

Inspired by a rival
In 2007, Zee Entertainment Enterprises founded the Indian Cricket League (ICL). The ICL was not recognized by the Indian Cricket Committee or the International Cricket Council (ICC). Additionally, the #BCCI was unhappy with committee members participating in the ICL Executive Council. In response, the BCCI increased domestic tournament prize money and imposed a lifetime ban on players who participated in rival leagues considered the Rebel League.
Foundation
On September 13, 2007 [26], BCCI announced the Twenty20 cricket competition with the Indian Premier League at the beginning of ICC World Twenty20 2007. Lalit Modi, Vice President of BCCI, who led the IPL initiative, provided tournament details, including format, prize money, franchise revenue system and rules for team composition. The seven-person board-managed league also serves as the qualification mechanism for this year’s Champions League Twenty20. A franchise company auction was held on January 24, 2008 to determine ownership of the team. The eight franchise companies had a reserve price of $400 million, but the auction ultimately raised $723.59 million. The league officially came in April 2008, including Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Dare Devils (DD), Kings
XI Punjab (KXIP), Deccan Chargers (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkatanite Riders (KK), and Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB).
